Joiner: Lance Corporal Charles Henry (19379)

12th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment

Charles Henry Joiner was born in 1874 to Henry and Hester at Hallen near Bristol. He had two brothers and three sisters.

Charles was married to Emma Kingscott and they lived at Upper Soudley near Cinderford. He enlisted in ‘Bristol’s Own’ Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment at Cinderford in March 1915.

Lance Corporal Charles Henry Joiner was killed in action during The Battle of Vimy Ridge on 14 April 1917 whilst bringing up ammunition to the men in the line. He was 43 years of age and left a wife and seven children.

He was buried at Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, and is commemorated on the Cinderford town and Soudley village war memorials.
