Forbes-Robertson: Captain Kenneth

2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders

Kenneth Forbes-Robertson was born in Yorkshire to Farquahar and Laura Forbes-Robertson . He was educated at Cheltenham College between 1885 and 1899 and subsequently went on to the Royal Military College at Sandhurst.

A career soldier he served with distinction in, amongst other countries, Somaliland and India before the Great War broke out, having been promoted to Captain in 1911.

He arrived in France on 5 October 1914, joining the 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders. Just over a month later, on 7 November he was killed at Ploegsteert Wood whilst leading a reconnoitring party.

Captain Kenneth Forbes-Robertson has no known grave but is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial and on the grave of his parents in the Cheltenham Borough Cemetery. At the time of his death his parents were living at 2 Keynsham Bank, Cheltenham. He was the brother of Lieutenant Colonel James Forbes-Robertson of the Border Regiment who was awarded the Victoria Cross, Distinguished Service Order and the Military Cross and who is also buried in Cheltenham Borough Cemetery.
